What to do about a cage shy wild Springfield animal?

Well, this is the age of do-it-yourself so a lot of people now consider that before they call in a Springfield professional they have to at least try and fix the problem themselves, and this can make a lot of animals very very trap shy because all the do-it-yourselfer has done is to give the animals a real good look at what is either a cage trap or a snap trap. Trust me on this if you set a snap trap and it goes off but doesn't get the animal the animal is never going to forget it because to put it bluntly you might not have killed the animal is intended but you will surely have frightened it half to death, it will now associate the snap trap with that fear.

I've heard over and over again from homeowners that the hardest Illinois animal that ever tried to trap is opossums and the common complaint is it doesn't seem to matter what kind of bait you use opossums just ignore it and carry on excavating wherever they seem to want to. There is a very simple reason why opossums ignore baits, and that is, opossums only eat living bugs or worms they themselves dig out of the ground so if your bait isn't living and the opossum did not dig it up then it will not even look at it.

Most professional trappers, both commercial fur trappers and wildlife removal trappers that have given information about trapping wild animals all stress two major points, which most homeowners either ignore or don't listen to.
1. never use a brand-new shiny silver trap, most wild Springfield animals will not go within 2 feet of a trap that is brand-new the matter what other things you've done the bright shiny metal will put them offensive
2. The second thing you need to do to any trap is to wash it down to make sure there is no human smell on the trap at all, if you're the said it doesn't matter what the trap actually smells of as long as it's not humid, dog or cat, any of those three smells and the animal is gone.

I know that real estate people say when they try and sell you a house that it is all about location, location, location, well guess what, where you put your traps and what you use as bait is also critical, if your traps are in the wrong place the bait doesn't matter, but if you trap is in the right place and you have the wrong bait you lose again, this is all about how you prepare to trap your target Illinois animal.
